Gifted & Tortured: Mastering the Poet-Brain Phenotypes of ADHD, Anxiety, and Autism
Andrew Hill, PhD

Educational Information Only

This book and website provide educational information about brain function, neurodivergence, and self-regulation. The content is intended for informational and educational purposes only and is not medical advice, psychological advice, or a substitute for professional diagnosis or treatment.

Nothing in this book or on this website should be interpreted as a recommendation to start, stop, or modify any medication, supplement, therapy, or medical treatment without consulting a qualified healthcare professional.

Not a Diagnostic Tool

The Poet-Brain Phenotype Model described in this book is a clinical framework developed from the author’s 25+ years of QEEG practice. The self-assessment and phenotype descriptions are educational tools for self-understanding — they are not diagnostic instruments and should not be used as a substitute for formal clinical evaluation.

If you suspect you have ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, or any other condition, please seek evaluation from a qualified clinician.

Professional Credentials & Scope

Andrew Hill, PhD holds a doctorate in Cognitive Neuroscience from UCLA. He is the founder of Peak Brain Institute and has reviewed over 25,000 quantitative EEG brain maps in clinical practice. He is not a licensed physician or psychologist. The observations and recommendations in this book reflect his clinical experience with EEG biofeedback and cognitive neuroscience research.

Case Studies

All case studies in this book are composite narratives drawn from 25 years of clinical practice. Names, identifying details, and specific circumstances have been changed to protect client confidentiality. Where QEEG patterns are described, they represent reproducible phenotypes observed across multiple clients, not individual case reports.

Supplements & Substances

Information about supplements, nootropics, and substances is provided for educational context only. Supplements are not FDA-regulated for efficacy, and individual responses vary widely. Always consult a healthcare provider before starting any supplement regimen, especially if you are taking prescription medications, are pregnant or nursing, or have a medical condition.

The chapter on substance patterns is harm-reduction focused and does not endorse illegal substance use. Legal status of substances varies by jurisdiction.

Neurofeedback & QEEG

Neurofeedback (EEG biofeedback) devices have received FDA 510(k) clearance as Class II medical devices for relaxation. This is device clearance, not an efficacy endorsement for specific conditions. The clinical outcomes described in this book reflect the author’s practice experience and published research, which varies in quality and conclusions.

QEEG interpretation requires specialized training. The phenotype descriptions in this book are simplified for a lay audience and should not be used for clinical protocol selection without proper QEEG training.

Disclosure of Interest

Andrew Hill, PhD is the founder of Peak Brain Institute. When Peak Brain Institute is mentioned or listed as a resource in this book, it is because it is the clinic where these clinical observations and data originate. The author has a financial interest in Peak Brain Institute.
